Skinny Tan Express Mousse Review

A couple of months ago, I was plus one'd by Lucy (check out her SkinnyTan review here!) to my first blogger event; the launch of Skinny Tan's Express Mousse! I was super excited to attend and check out their new product, as well as to simply experience what a promotional event was like.
It was a wonderful time and a really awesome opportunity, and I hope that one day I'll get a cheeky invite to an event myself as it was so much fun!

Considering the event was a few months ago, it's taken me a looong time to actually try this out, but mainly because I was nervous about using it above everything! As a teenage girl, I've seen many-a fake tan gone wrong, from cheetah-like patches/streaks to startling shades of orange! I just didn't really fancy looking silly for a week or so, but I finally mustered the courage to apply my first ever fake tan! Luckily I had the SkinnyTan Express Tanning Mousse* to hand, and I must say that as a beginner, it was super easy to use, and it fulfilled their promise of a streak-free tan.  I exfoliated beforehand with their Exfoliating Prep Mitt* combined with their Pre Tan Primer*, (which smelt amazing by the way!) and my skin felt super soft and tan ready.

So, with the product itself, you can either leave it on for an hour, for a 'medium' tan, three hours for a much darker tan, or even overnight if you're after a super deep tan! I wasn't feeling particularly brave, so I went with a 2 hour developing time, which turned out to be perfect for me. Because I'm half Thai, I've always been a bit wary of how tanning products would turn out on my skin, but I've got to  say how beautiful and glowy the tan was! At the event, I did speak to a member of the Skinny Tan team about my skin-colour issues, and I was recommended a bottle of their Tan & Tone Oil*. I have used this a couple times and I do prefer it to their full-on tan, as it enhances my yellow-based skin tone beautifully, and quickly brings me from sad and sun lacking, to beautiful and bronze-y!

I've also always noticed the gross biscuity smell that lingers after a fake tan, and there was a teeny bit of that with this product after it had fully developed, but it mostly just smelt tropical and coconut-ty. (And to be honest, I kinda like the biscuit-y smell anyway? I hope I'm not the only one...)

As a brand, I don't think you can really go wrong with SkinnyTan. They're cruelty free and provide an easy-to-apply, streak free tan, and also have a wide range of products that cater to everyone!

What are your favourite tanning products?

  1. I usually use a tanning moisturiser but I would love to give this a try, I am just always afraid of looking orange! x

  2. Great review and lucky you getting to go to the event!
I like the sound of this tan and that they have a pre tan primer too! I'm very pale so I'm always worried about tanning products, I've seen skinny tan about a lot recently though and I'm very tempted!

  3. I am desparate to try this tan out but I could give Casper the ghost a run for his money I'm that pale! Great review, might give it a bash now knowing that you can leave it on for 2 hours or overnight! Thanks
